Job Description

Primary Purpose


Provide ongoing support and assistance for campus special education staff in evaluating, planning, and providing assistive technology implementation and services consistent with goals contained in student's IEP. Assist with review and update of SPED operational processes; purchase requisition recommendations and budget predictions for district assistive technology needs based on students' needs in the district; and with recruitment and retention of staff. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD.

Qualifications

Education/Certification/Licensure


Master's degree in speech-language pathology or occupational therapy from an accredited college or university


Valid Texas license granted by TBOTE or TDLR


Special Knowledge/Skills


Effective communication and interpersonal skills


Ability to establish augmentative and alternative communication techniques and strategies


including developing, selecting, and prescribing of such systems and devices


Ability to use the accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and


Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and


conditions


Ability to provide instruction and to manage student behavior


Strong team-building skills


Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data

Experience


Minimum of 3 years of experience as a SLP or OT

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Provide support to campuses requesting assistance in the area of assistive technology to conduct comprehensive and integrated assessment that considers the student's assistive technology needs, identifying and coordinating (when necessary) the participation of other team members (from various disciplines) throughout the assessment process.
  2. Support campus special education staff in determining the purpose(s) of assistive technology assessments.
  3. Provide consultation in the area of assistive technology and speech-language pathology to campus administrators, teachers, parents, coworkers, ARD committees and others maintaining friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders.
  4. Facilitate/provide staff development to special education and general education staff in the technical use and educational implementation of assistive technology identified as necessary through evaluation and documented within the student's IEP at a campus level or district-wide staff development as necessary.
  5. Collaborate with instructional technology personnel to align special education assistive technology guidelines with general education technology guidelines.
  6. Provide assistance and leadership for campus special education staff in planning and implementing assistive technology consistent with goals contained in student's IEP.
  7. Provide consultation to campus administrators, teachers, parents, coworkers and others maintaining friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders.
  8. Attend district Team Leader meetings, provide/facilitate staff development on district special education initiatives, and conduct at least quarterly department meetings reviewing policy and disseminating information from the team leader meetings.
  9. Perform random periodic checks tracking the effectiveness and continued use of recommended assistive technology through various data collection methods, including progress on goals and objectives.
  10. Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action and assist with the revision of department operating processes in the area of assistive technology as needed for maintaining effective systemic processes and practices.
  11. Assist with purchase requisition recommendations, facilitate repairs on department equipment, and provide budget predictions for assistive technology district needs based on students' needs.
  12. Supervise assistive technology aids and special education campus technician prioritizing their assignments and monitoring their effectiveness.
