Salary: Starts at $20/hour

Position Summary:
The Academic Coach serves as a primary academic support for assigned Mansfield Hall students, guiding them in developing academic skills, self-advocacy, and independence. The coach provides direct academic service, tutoring, and mentorship to help students navigate the complexities of post-secondary education while utilizing campus and Mansfield Hall resources. The role focuses on fostering growth in academic areas, social interactions, and life skills within the Mansfield Hall living and learning community.


Essential Functions:

  • Provide direct academic service, coaching, tutoring, and support to students with diverse learning needs.
  • Support students during daily Structured Study Time to help maintain organization and progress toward their academic goals.
  • Meet one-on-one with students regularly to assess and track their progress toward academic objectives and provide direct instruction where needed.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with Academic Directors and other Academic Coaches to ensure high-quality academic programming and support.
  • Direct students to appropriate campus resources, including libraries and learning centers, to help them maximize available academic support.
  • Identify and predict academic challenges such as course difficulty, attendance issues, grades, and project planning, using Mansfield Halls tracking system.
  • Report student progress in the course tracking system, providing accurate and timely updates on academic performance.
  • Support students in setting and achieving goals in Mansfield Halls four core areas: academic, social, independent living, and community engagement.
  • Guide students through the college experience, encouraging them to engage in both their academic environment and the broader Mansfield Hall living and learning community.
  • Build positive relationships, model positive social interactions, and provide mentorship, coaching, and feedback to students.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Life and Life Skills Coach to ensure programmatic alignment with academic and social objectives.
  • Attend all meetings as scheduled by the Academic Director and other supervisors.
  • Perform other duties not specified but essential to the overall functioning of the Mansfield Hall program.


Qualifications:

  • A bachelors degree in behavioral sciences or related fields.
  • At least one year of direct experience in academic tutoring, coaching, or supporting students with diverse learning needs.
  • Strong ability to build professional relationships with students, families, and campus partners.
  • Experience in supporting academic growth in a higher education environment.
  • Proven success working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with community partners, campus resources, and external support services.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail and a customer service focus.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain flexibility in a dynamic work environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize and summarize complex information effectively.


Working Conditions:

  • Internal: Work is performed primarily in a climate-controlled office environment with moderate noise from normal office activities. Occasional interruptions and distractions are inherent to a flex-space work environment.
  • External:
    Minimal local travel may be required. Work outside the office typically takes place in similar environments, such as campus buildings or campus spaces.


Physical Demands:

  • The position involves standing and walking for brief periods of time.
  • Eye strain from reading detailed materials and computer work is possible.
  • The ability to lift up to 30 pounds (such as office equipment and supplies) is required.
  • Deadlines, workloads during peak periods, and shifting priorities may cause elevated stress levels. Finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination are needed to operate computer keyboards. Adaptive devices will be provided as needed to prevent repetitive motion injuries.
