Overview

As a Facilities Welder, you’ll play a vital role in building and maintaining the structures, exhibits, and infrastructure that welcome and inspire tens of thousands of visitors each year. From secure enclosures and custom platforms to decorative railing and event staging, your craftsmanship directly shapes the experience of a beloved, one-of-a-kind Knoxville destination.

This is a highly skilled, hands-on role for someone who takes pride in their work and finds meaning in building things that last. You’ll weld, fabricate, and repair metal systems across a multi-acre campus—supporting seasonal installations, major capital projects, and everyday facility upkeep. One day you might be fabricating a new gate system for a high-traffic exhibit area, and the next reinforcing structural steel to support a special event or new attraction.

Pay & Benefits

• Full-Time
• $21 - $22 / hr
• Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k, Paid Leave, Personal Leave and Sick Leave

Shift & Schedule

• Monday - Friday
• 8am - 4:30pm (with some variance)

Responsibilities

• Weld, fabricate, and repair metal components and structural elements across public, exhibit, and support areas
• Design and construct fences, platforms, and enclosures and support infrastructure for new and existing exhibits
• Diagnose and troubleshoot facility structures, equipment, and welded assemblies
• Safely operate a wide variety of tools and equipment including MIG welders, cutting torches, grinders, hand and power tools
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication diagrams
• Perform preventive maintenance on welded structures and support systems to reduce risk and improve longevity
• Support installation and breakdown of seasonal exhibits, special events, and guest experiences
• Coordinate with other departments to support campus-wide operations and infrastructure needs
• Maintain accurate logs for work performed, materials used, and time spent
• Assist in training and supervising volunteers or junior team members as needed
• Uphold all applicable safety codes and organization policies (OSHA, ADA, USDA, EPA, etc.)

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of welding and facilities maintenance experience (commercial, industrial, or construction)
• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/trade school preferred
• Proficient in MIG welding, metal fabrication, and safe use of cutting torches and welders
• Skilled in blueprint reading, mechanical repair, and safe operation of hand and power tools
• Strong problem-solving skills; able to work independently or collaborate across departments
• Professional, organized, and customer service-oriented demeanor
• Comfortable reacting effectively in high-pressure or emergency situations
• Valid Tennessee driver’s license required (or ability to obtain)
