We are seeking a Professional Land Surveyor to join our experienced and dynamic team in Billings, Montana. Our surveyors bring deep expertise in boundary determination, legal descriptions, ALTA/NSPS surveys, easement development, water rights changes, and due diligence for both public and private sector clients. This position offers the opportunity to work across a broad spectrum of sectors, including utilities, routing, land development, and energy infrastructure.
As a Professional Land Surveyor, you’ll be responsible for both field and office-based tasks, managing the technical and legal aspects of surveying while collaborating with engineers, clients, and technicians. This role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of modern surveying tools and regulatory frameworks.
Key ResponsibilitiesConduct boundary, topographic, and construction surveys to establish legal property lines
Research historical records, maps, deeds, and prior survey documents
Prepare survey deliverables including legal descriptions, sketches, plats, and reports
Collect and interpret survey data using GPS, total stations, UAVs, sonar, scanners, and levels
Create and review CAD-based survey maps and plans using Trimble Business Center and AutoCAD Civil 3D
Supervise and mentor survey technicians, coordinate fieldwork, and ensure data accuracy
Support engineering projects with accurate field data and coordinate with design teams
Maintain and track survey equipment, and coordinate any necessary repairs
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local land surveying laws and practices
Participate in public and private project meetings and provide input on land surveying aspects
Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred)
Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in Montana, or ability to obtain licensure within six months
Proficiency with Trimble systems, Trimble Business Center, and AutoCAD Civil 3D
Strong understanding of land surveying principles, legal codes, and subdivision regulations
Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal
Strong mathematical and analytical skills
Ability to lead and train field crews and junior staff
